Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has found himself in legal trouble after the Raipur Police registered an FIR against him for allegedly making offensive remarks targeting the Brahmin community. The complaint accuses him of promoting discord between different social groups, a police official confirmed on Tuesday.
The case was filed at the City Kotwali police station following a complaint by Pandit Neelkanth Tripathi, a Raipur resident and national vice president of the Rashtriya Brahman Mahasangh (Bharat), who also serves as the organization's Chhattisgarh coordinator.
According to the complaint, Kashyap had recently posted a statement on social media that was viewed as casteist and deeply offensive toward the Brahmin community. Authorities said the comment not only hurt community sentiments but also risked disturbing social cohesion.
The filmmaker, however, has since issued an apology, admitting that he lost his temper and used inappropriate language in a social media exchange. He acknowledged that he crossed a line and expressed regret for his actions.
