In a decisive move reflecting India’s intensifying diplomatic and political posture, the upcoming cross-border film Abir Gulal, starring celebrated Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, will not see a theatrical release in India. This follows the country’s strong response to the recent Pahalgam terror strike that claimed the lives of 26 Indian civilians.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have confirmed that the film, which was scheduled for release on May 9, has been barred from screening as part of a wider strategic retaliation.
Directed by Aarti S Bagdi and featuring Indian actress Vaani Kapoor in a pivotal role, Abir Gulal was poised to be a unique cinematic collaboration. However, in the current climate, the project has been swept into the broader narrative of national security and geopolitical consequences.
