In the newly formed cabinet of Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada, François-Philippe Champagne has been appointed Minister of Finance, replacing Dominique LeBlanc. LeBlanc, who previously held the finance portfolio, is now the Minister of International Trade.
Chrystia Freeland has rejoined the cabinet as Minister of Transport and Internal Trade. Anita Anand has taken on the role of Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry. Meanwhile, Kamal Khaira, of Punjabi origin, has been promoted to become Canada’s new Minister of Health.
The Ministry of Health was previously held by Mark Holland, who announced yesterday that he will not seek re-election. Steven Guilbeault, a vocal supporter of the carbon tax, has moved from Minister of Environment to Minister of Culture and Parks Canada. Mark Miller will be succeeded by Rachel Bendayan as Canada’s Immigration Minister. Melanie Joly retains her position as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
