Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP from Punjab, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament today, stating that several opposition parties, including Congress, were also against the bill.
The Waqf Amendment Bill, which seeks to bring changes to the Waqf Board, was supported by government-aligned parties like the TDP, JDU, and LJP, while opposition parties, including Congress, expressed their disapproval. During the debate, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi voiced strong opposition, claiming that the bill's purpose was to humiliate Muslims. Owaisi then proceeded to tear up a copy of the bill and left the proceedings in protest.
In response, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah accused opposition parties of playing vote-bank politics during the discussion. He clarified that the new law makes it clear that no non-Muslim will be included in the Waqf Board, emphasizing that such provisions were not part of the bill.
