Prime Minister Trudeau met with big city mayors in Ottawa today. The meeting was convened to discuss the implications of a potential tariff war between Canada and the United States.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister spoke to reporters, stating that Canada fully supports the United States in its efforts to crack down on fentanyl traffickers. He emphasized that this drug should be eradicated from the face of the earth and that those responsible for trafficking it should be severely punished.
Trudeau mentioned that Canada is actively working on this issue and that progress is being made. However, he also noted that the preparation of the proposed counter-tariffs has not been completely ruled out. He stated that if President Trump moves forward with the tariffs, Canada will respond accordingly.
It is noteworthy that Trump had postponed the tariffs for about a month after receiving assurances from Prime Minister Trudeau regarding border security, an area Canada is also addressing. Despite this, uncertainty remains about Trump’s next decision.
